Baltimore 2, Tampa Bay 1

BALTIMORE, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Buddy Groom induced Steve Cox to bounce into a bases-loaded double play in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night to preserve the Baltimore Orioles's 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Groom was brought in after Jorge Julio loaded the bases with one out and with Cox, a lefthanded hitter coming up. Groom ran the count to 3-2 before Cox hit a grounder to second baseman Jerry Hairston.

On Tuesday night, Groom came in with two outs in the ninth and Baltimore trailing by a run and got Cox to foul out to third before the Orioles rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Wednesday night's performance earned Groom his second save of the season and first since May 25.

Baltimore rookie Rodrigo Lopez (14-5) allowed one run and five hits in eight innings and improved to 4-0 against the Devil Rays this season. The righthander is 12-1 in night games this season.

Tampa Bay starter Victor Zambrano (5-5) yielded two runs and five hits in a career-high 6 2/3 innings but has lost both of decisions against Baltimore in 2002.
