Cleveland 24, Detroit 23

CLEVELAND, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Josh Booty threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to JaJuan Dawson with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter Saturday night to lift the Cleveland Browns past the Detroit Tigers, 24-23.

Booty, the third-string quarterback, completed 5-of-6 passes for 87 yards while Dawson led the Browns with four catches for 87 yards.

Tim Couch was 9-of-12 for 60 yards for Cleveland, but it was backup Kelly Holcomb who erased a 16-10 halftime deficit with a 14-yard scoring strike to tight end Mark Campbell. Holcomb completed 14-of-18 passes for 149 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

William Green, the Browns' No. 1 draft choice, rushed for 28 yards on eight carries and caught two passes for 10 yards.

Detroit starter Mike McMahon completed 5-of-9 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown -- a 30-yard pass to Mikhail Ricks in the second quarter. Lions first-round pick Joey Harrington was 17-of-31 for 244 yards and a TD.
