Golden leads Canadian Women's Open

VAUDREUIL-DORIAN, Quebec, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Kate Golden, ranked 50th on the LPGA Tour's money list, holed a 66-foot eagle putt on the ninth hole -- her last of the day -- to complete a 5-under 67 Thursday that gave her a one-stroke lead over Korea's Mi Hyun Kim at the Canadian Women's Open.

Golden was just 2-under through 16 holes, but played the last two holes in 3-under, sinking an eight-foot birdie putt on No. 8. She hit a driver and 3-wood to reach the par-5 ninth hole in two and sank the lengthy putt to get to 5-under.

The Texas native has just one top-10 finish this year, a tie for second at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Kim, who is seeking her third win of the year, was in sole possession of second, one shot ahead of Michelle Ellis, fellow Koreans Hee-Won Han and Gloria Park, Michelle Redman and Kelly Robbins.

Defending champion Annika Sorenstam of Sweden is taking the week off after having her string of 74 consecutive cuts made snapped last week at the British Women's Open.
