HELSINKI, Finland, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- No. 5 Martina Sucha of Slovakia is the only remaining seed at the $140,000 Nordea Nordic Light Open.
Sucha, seeking her second title of the season, routed Spaniard Gala Leon Garcia, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of this Tier IV claycourt event Friday.
The 21-year-old Sucha won her only career title in January at
Hobart, where she defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain.
Leon Garcia, in the quarterfinals for the first time this
season, upset second seed Iva Majoli of Croatia in the first
Czech Denisa Chladkova, who ousted top-seeded Italian Silvia
Farina Elia in the second round, knocked off sixth seed Asa
Svensson of Sweden, 6-3, 6-2, Friday.
The 23-year-old Chladkova hadn't reached the quarterfinals in a WTA event this year. She will face Austrian Patricia Wartusch in the semifinals.
Wartusch cruised past Hungarian Petra Mandula, 6-4, 6-1, Friday and is seeking her second title in as many months. Wartusch, who turned 24 on Monday, won her second career title in July at Casablanca.
