Arrojo goes on DL with back problems

BOSTON, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox Wednesday returned righthander Rolando Arrojo to the 15-day disabled list with a bulging disk in his lower back.

The 34-year-old Arrojo makes his second trip to the DL this season. In late June, the veteran swingman was sidelined with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.

Arrojo has appeared in 26 games, makining eight starts, and is 4-3 with one save and a 4.83 ERA. He has 46 strikeouts and 25 walks in 76 1/3 innings.

To fill Arrojo's spot on the roster, Boston recalled journeyman righthander Willie Banks from Class AAA Pawtucket.

Banks, 33, has made 18 appearances with the Red Sox this season, earning two wins and a save while posting a 3.00 ERA in 21 innings.
