AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 19 points to lead a balanced attack as the Charlotte Sting ended a five-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 76-65 victory over the Detroit Shock.
Andrea Stinson scored 14 points, Allison Feaster added 12 and Charlotte Smith 10 for the Sting (15-14), who won for the first time since July 24 and avoided falling below .500.
Charlotte took the lead for good with a 9-0 burst that snapped a 6-6 tie. Feaster made a 3-pointer to cap the run at 15-6 with 15:30 left in the first half.
Sutton-Brown scored 12 points and Stinson 10 in the first half, which ended with the Sting holding a 40-31 lead. They widened the advantage to 45-31 on Sutton-Brown's basket less than a minute into the second half.
Elaine Powell's basket capped a 9-1 surge that pulled Detroit within 46-40 with just under 17 minutes to go. But the Shock got no closer as Feaster and Smith each scored seven points in the second half.
Powell scored 15 points and rookie Swin Cash added 10 for the Shock, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Sting point guard Dawn Staley suffered a sprained left ankle with two minutes to play.
