ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Sheryl Swoopes scored six of her 25 points in the final minute Saturday night as the Houston Comets ended the three-game winning streak of the Orlando Miracle, 69-62.
The Comets never trailed in the second half but were threatened throughout. Nykesha Sales' basket with 1:22 remaining pulled Orlando within 63-62.
Swoopes took the inbounds pass and eventually made a 15-foot jumper with 54 seconds to go. Houston center Tiffani Johnson blocked Sales on the next possession and Swoopes sank four foul shots for the final margin.
Houston took its largest lead at 55-46 on a tip-in by Johnson with just under 14 minutes left. The Miracle scored the next eight points and climbed within one on a basket by Katie Douglas with just under seven minutes to go.
The Comets (21-7) remained a half game behind Los Angeles for the best record in the WNBA.
Douglas scored 18 points and Jessie Hicks added 12 for Orlando, which shot just 36 percent from the field. Shannon Johnson made just three of 19 shots for 10 points as the Miracle remained one game ahead of Indiana for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East.
Orlando guard Wendy Palmer suffered a bruised left knee in the first half and did not return.
