Thrashers sign Kozlov, 3 others

ATLANTA, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Thrashers Thursday re-signed three restricted free agents -- left wing Vyacheslav Kozlov, right wing Tomi Kallio and center Ben Simon.

Additionally, the Thrashers also signed unrestricted free agent center Chris Herperger.

Kozlov, 30, had just nine goals and 22 points last season after being sidelined with an Achilles injury. Acquired from Buffalo on June 22, the Russian also helped the Detroit Red Wings capture the Stanley Cup in 1997 and 1998.

The 5-10, 190-pound Kozlov has collected 211 goals and 226 assists for 437 points with a plus-133 rating in his 645 career NHL games.

The 25-year-old Kallio notched eight goals and 14 assists in 60 outings for Atlanta during the 2001-2002 campaign, as well as recording a goal and two assists in four games for Finland at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. The 6-0, 195-pound Kallio

has registered 22 goals and 27 assists in 116 career NHL contests.

Simon, 24, made just six appearances for the Thrashers, spending most of last season with Chicago of the American Hockey League.

The 6-0, 195-pound Simon helped that team win the 2002 Calder Cup.

The 28-year-old Harperger tallied four goals, nine assists and 43 penalty minutes in 72 games for Ottawa last season. The 6-0, 190-pound Herperger has 19 goals, 19 assists and 68 penalty minutes in 142 NHL games.
