Gilder keeps one-shot lead

CONCORD, Mass., July 27 (UPI) -- Bob Gilder maintained a one-stroke lead, Jim Thorpe made a late surge and defending champion Larry Nelson fell seven shots off the pace Saturday after the second round of the FleetBoston Classic.

Coming off a playoff victory, Gilder shot a 5-under-par 67 Saturday to move to 11-under 133 for the tournament. Thorpe birdied four of his last five holes to complete a round of 65 and was alone at 10-under.

Bidding to join Chi Chi Rodriguez as the only golfers to win this tournament three straight times, Nelson carded a 73 Saturday and was seven strokes behind Gilder.

Gilder posted his third career Senior PGA Tour victory at last week's SBC Senior Open by beating Hale Irwin on the first extra hole.
