Charlotte 70, Sacramento 51

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 19 (UPI) -- Kelly Miller scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting off the bench and Charlotte Smith added 14 points as the Charlotte Sting routed the Sacramento Monarchs, 70-51, Friday night for their fourth straight win.

Smith's first of four 3-pointers came 3:35 into the contest. It sparked a 17-1 run that was capped by reserve Erin Buescher's layup with 10:23 remaining and gave the Sting a 22-8 lead.

Charlotte's advantage never dropped below double figures thereafter as the Sting registered their sixth win in seven home games. They are 10-2 at the Charlotte Coliseum this season.

Miller and Smith combined for 11 points in the opening 20 minutes as the Sting took a 35-24 halftime advantage. They are 6-1 at home against the Western Conference.

Charlotte put the game out of reach in the opening 3 1/2 minutes of the second half. Smith nailed a jumper to cap an 11-1 burst that stretched the advantage to 45-26.

Yolanda Griffith had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Monarchs, whose 4-16 record is the worst in the West.

Charlotte ended a six-game losing streak against Sacramento, which fell to 1-11 on the road.
