Canas rolls past second round

BASTAD, Sweden, July 10 (UPI) -- Guillermo Canas of Argentina and Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco both recorded victories Wednesday that kept them headed for another possible showdown at the Swedish Open.

Canas, the top seed, whitewashed Albert Montanes of Spain, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals of the claycourt tournament.

"I played very, very well," Canas said. "This may have been the best match of the year on clay for me. The ball looked very big and slow."

El Aynaoui, the second seed, also eased through his second-round contest against Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-3.

"I was a bit concerned about playing Bohdan," El Aynaoui said. "The last time we played, we had a tough three-setter. It helped me play a solid match."

In April, Canas and El Aynaoui squared off in the final of the Grand Prix Hassan II claycourt event at Casablanca. In front of his home fans, El Aynaoui rallied past Canas, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In the quarterfinals, Canas will play fellow Argentine Agustin Calleri and El Aynaoui will face Spain's Albert Portas. Calleri overcame France's Nicolas Coutelot, 6-2, 7-5, and Portas knocked off Argentine seventh seed Mariano Zabaleta, 6-3, 6-2.
