Houston 67, Seattle 59

HOUSTON, July 9 (UPI) -- Sheryl Swoopes scored 16 of her 24 points in the second half as the Houston Comets rallied Tuesday night for a 67-59 victory over the Seattle Storm and extended their winning streak to 10 games.

Swoopes, a three-time All-Star and the league's top vote-getter for next week's game in Washington, made 10-of-19 shots. Her layup with 92 seconds left put the Comets ahead for good, 58-56.

The Comets closed out their 10th consecutive win by converting seven free throws. They had not won 10 straight since June 23-July 12, 2000 and their comeback from an 18-point deficit is the largest in franchise history.

The Storm jumped out to a 41-27 halftime lead, but slowly the Comets began to chip away. They used a 14-1 run to close the deficit to 42-41 with 14:30 left.

The Storm went without a basket for nearly 7 1/2 minutes spanning both halves. A 3-pointer by Kamila Vodichkoa ended the drought for Seattle and gave it a 45-41 lead with 14:07 to play.

Lauren Jackson paced Seattle with 16 points, while Vodichkoa added 10. Rookie All-Star Sue Bird was held to seven points on 3-of-12 shooting.
