Boston 5, Toronto 2

BOSTON, July 3 (UPI) -- Tony Clark singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Boston Red Sox stole five bases Wednesday night en route to their fourth straight win, a 5-2 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Boston had lost seven of eight games before Toronto visited Fenway Park. After taking the series opener, the Red Sox swept a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday and used three-run eighth inning to make it four in a row.

Manny Ramirez led off the eighth with a single and left for pinch-runner Rickey Henderson. After Brian Daubach flied out against Cliff Politte (1-2), Henderson stole second and continued to third on catcher Darrin Fletcher's throwing error.

Politte struck out Jason Varitek, but could not escape as Clark lined a 3-2 pitch into left-center field to give Boston a 3-2 lead.

Trot Nixon also singled and a base hit by Lou Merloni scored pinch-runner Jose Offerman to chase Politte. Merloni also stole second and the Red Sox added a run as Brian Bowles walked Johnny Damon and hit Shea Hillenbrand to make it 5-2.
