OAKLAND, Calif., July 2 (UPI) -- Doug Mientkiewicz collected three RBI Monday night, including a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning, as the Minnesota Twins rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Oakland had a 4-3 lead when Minnesota's Cristian Guzman opened the seventh inning with a single. Corey Koskie reached on an error by rookie second baseman Mark Ellis before reliever Mike Venafro (2-2) gave way to Jim Mecir.
After Mecir struck out the first two batters he faced, Mientkiewicz lined a 1-1 pitch down the right-field line to score Guzman and Koskie for a 5-4 edge.
Minnesota reliever J.C. Romero (4-1) earned the victory after recording the final out of the sixth, but left after issuing a leadoff walk in the seventh.
LaTroy Hawkins pitched two scoreless innings and Eddie Guardado worked around a single in the ninth for his American League-leading 25th save.
