ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 29 (UPI) -- Julian Tavarez allowed two runs -- one earned -- and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings and Preston Wilson and Cliff Floyd homered Saturday night, leading the Florida Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Tavarez (6-4), who has won four of his last five decisions, rebounded after having a three-game winning streak snapped in his last outing. The righthander walked three and struck out three.
The Marlins' offense consisted of Wilson's solo homer in the third and Floyd's two-run shot in the sixth that snapped a 1-1 tie.
Florida improved to 2-3 against Tampa Bay this year and can split the season series with a win Sunday.
Tavarez tired in the seventh, giving up a leadoff double to Winn. After Brent Abernathy grounded out, Steve Cox and Grieve walked to load the bases.
Ball four got past catcher Charles Johnson for a passed ball, allowing Winn to score and leaving runners on first and second.
But Armando Almanza replaced Tavarez and got Huff to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Brandan Looper tossed a scoreless eighth before Vladimir Nunez recorded the final three outs for his 18th save.
