Umpires named for All-Star Game

NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- Gerry Davis, in his 19th season, and Tim Tschida, in his 17th year, were among the six umpires named Wednesday to work this year's All-Star game.

Davis, a crew chief, was named the plate umpire for the July 9 game at Milwaukee's Miller Park. He has worked two previous All-Star games, 1989 in Anaheim and 1997 in Cleveland.

Tschida will be working his second All-Star game at first base. He also was part of the crew for the 1992 game in San Diego.

Completing the umpiring crew are Chuck Meriwether (second base), Jerry Meals (third base), Marty Foster (left field) and Paul Emmel (right field).

Meriwether, a 10-year veteran, will be taking part in his second All-Star game, having worked the 1996 contest in Philadelphia.

Meals, Foster and Emmel will be umpiring in their first All-Star game.
