Dominique Canty led the Shock with 17 points and Wendy Palmer scored 11 of her 15 points in the first nine minutes of the second half as Detroit rallied for a 53-53 tie.

The Sting answered with a 9-3 run and took a 62-56 lead on a basket by Sutton-Brown with just under nine minutes remaining.

The Shock got within 75-73 after Ayana Walker converted a three-point play with 33 seconds to play. But Palmer and Swin Cash missed 3-pointers and Charlotte scored the game's final five points.

Detroit lost its second game under new coach Bill Laimbeer, who took over for Greg Williams last week.
