Detroit 2, Montreal 1

DETROIT, June 11 (UPI) -- Dmitri Young's seventh-inning RBI single snapped a tie Tuesday night and lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Expos.

With Ramon Santiago on second and and Damian Jackson on first, Young hit a 1-2 pitch into left field where it was fielded by Troy O'Leary, whose throw home just missed getting Santiago.

Earlier in the frame, Shane Halter led off the inning with his third home run of the season off Matt Herges, tying the game. It was the ninth homer hit to center field since Comerica Park opened in 2000.

Mark Redman (3-6) allowed one run and seven hits in eight innings for his third win in his last five starts. Juan Acevedo allowed one hit and struck out one in the ninth for his ninth save.

Herges (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits while retiring just two batters in relief of starter Masato Yoshii, who left the game in the fourth after being hit by a line drive by Randall Simon. X-rays were negative and the righthander suffered a bruise near his face.
