Philadelphia 11, Detroit 1

DETROIT, June 7 (UPI) -- Scott Rolen had four hits and knocked in five runs and Vicente Padilla worked seven innings Friday night as the Philadelphia Phillies rolled to an 11-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Elgible for free agency after the season, Rolen has struggled in what could be his final year in a Philadelphia uniform. He recently was dropped from the cleanup spot in the batting order, and he hit sixth for the first time on Friday.

Rolen immediately responded to the change, delivering a two-run single in the first inning that gave the Phillies a 4-0 lead. He was far from finished, adding an RBI double in the fourth and a two-run homer in the ninth.

A converted reliever, Padilla (9-4) continued to establish himself as the ace of the Philadelphia staff. The righthander limited the Tigers to one run and six hits, walking one and striking out three.

Pat Burell hit a two-run homer and Jimmy Rollins and Marlon Anderson each had three hits for Philadelphia, which improved to just 6-22 on the road.

Damion Easley stroked an RBI triple in the fifth for the Tigers, who lost for the seventh time in their last eight games.

Tigers starter Jeff Weaver (4-8), who was 7-0 in 10 career interleague appearances, was tagged for seven runs and 11 hits in four innings.
