To fill the roster spot, Pittsburgh recalled righthander Bronson Arroyo from Class AAA Nashville of the Pacific Coast League.

Arroyo also will take Williams' place in the rotation and will start Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 25-year old righthander has appeared in 44 major league games and has a 7-13 record with a 5.68 ERA. Arroyo made 13 starts for the Pirates last season and threw the only complete game of his major league career. In 10 games with Nashville this season, he was 3-4 with a 2.35 ERA.
