NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Mike Piazza's solo home run with one out in the seventh inning snapped a tie Wednesday night and lifted the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Piazza crushed a 2-2 pitch from Phillies reliever Jose Santiago over the center field wall for his 10th homer of the season but first in 11 games. The homer capped a four-run rally for New York, which improved to 13-8 in one-run games.
Piazza also drove in a run in the fifth on a groundout to first. The Mets scored three times in the inning, erasing a 3-0 deficit.
Santiago (1-3) relieved starter Randy Wolf, who allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings.
Scott Strickland (5-2) entered the game with runners on first and second and one out in the seventh and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings for his third win in the last seven contests.
Armando Benitez retired the side in order in the ninth for his 10th save.
