Jones one shot behind Diaz

CORNING, N.Y., May 25 (UPI) -- Two-time champion Rosie Jones fired a bogey-free 5-under-par 67 on Saturday to climb within one shot of leader Laura Diaz at the LPGA Corning Classic.

The only player in the tournament's 23-year history to win consecutive titles, Jones climbed to 11-under 205 after three trips around the Corning Country Club. She will be paired Sunday with Diaz, who carded a 2-under 70 after sharing the second-round lead.

Jones captured this event in 1996 and 1997, was the runner-up in 1999 and is the leading money-winner in Corning Classic history.

Playing before an enthusiastic gallery Saturday, she collected five birdies as she seeks her 13th career victory and sixth in the state of New York.

Italy's Silvia Cavalleri shot a 70 and is three strokes back at 9-under, one better than Korean rookie Jung Yeon Lee. Second-round co-leader Jean Bartholomew closed a 3-over 75 with three straight bogeys and fell six shots off the pace at 210.
