Britain's Rusedski withdraws from French

PARIS, May 22 (UPI) -- Greg Rusedski of Britain Wednesday withdrew from the upcoming French Open because of a neck injury.

Rusedski has been bothered by neck pain for several weeks, forcing him to withdraw from the Tennis Masters Series in Hamburg and the World Team Cup.

A runnerup at the U.S. Open in 1997, the hard-serving Rusedski currently is 33rd in the ATP points race. He has struggled at Roland Garros, with a fourth-round showing in 1999 his best effort in seven attempts.

Rusedski is expected to concentrate on the upcoming grasscourt season and Wimbledon. He has won a pair of grasscourt titles in his career.
