San Francisco 9; Florida 3

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 (UPI) -- A two-run single by pinch-hitter Tom Goodwin Friday night snapped a seventh-inning tie, and Tsuyoshi Shinjo hit his first career grand slam in the eighth as the San Francisco Giants posted a 9-3 triumph over the Florida Marlins.

David Bell provided San Francisco with a 2-0 lead with a two-run, two-out home run in the third inning, but Cliff Floyd tied the contest in the fourth with a two-run single.

In the eighth, the Giants took a seven-run advantage. Rich Aurilia and Barry Bonds hit consecutive one-out singles, but Jeff Kent struck out. After Snow singled, Braden Looper walked Sanders to force in a run. Shinjo followed with his third homer of the year and San Francisco's first grand slam of the season over the wall in left field.

Bonds had the last grand slam for the Giants on Aug. 14, also against Florida.

Ortiz (4-2) allowed two runs and five hits over seven innings, did not walk a batter and struck out a season-high six. He improved to 15-5 in his last 27 home starts, and is 3-1 lifetime against the Marlins.

Robb Nen surrendered a solo homer to Derrek Lee in the ninth inning, but picked up his 13th save. He yielded three hits and had one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.

Ryan Dempster (2-4) struck out a season-high nine but failed to win his third consecutive start after giving up four runs and six hits over seven innings. The 25-year-old righthander fell to 0-5 in six career starts against the Giants.
