N.Y. Mets 2; Los Angeles 0

LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) -- Jeff D'Amico became the second straight New York Mets starter to toss a two-hit shutout Wednesday night and Mo Vaughn homered in a 2-0 blanking of the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-0.

One night after former Dodger Pedro Astacio tossed a masterpiece, D'Amico and the Mets became the first team to pin a loss on Japanese lefthander Kazuhisa Ishii.

D'Amico (3-3) allowed singles to Paul Lo Duca and Mark Grudzielanek in the second inning, walked two and struck out eight in recording his first shutout since July 19, 2000, when he was with Milwaukee.

New York scored a run in the second on a groundout by Jay Payton that scored Edgardo Alfonzo. D'Amico preserved the lead until the eighth, when Vaughn hit his third homer of the season and second in a week to give the Mets some breathing room.

Ishii (6-1) pitched extremely well, allowing a run and just four hits in seven innings. He walked four and struck out four.
