Toronto 4, Anaheim 1

TORONTO, May 4 (UPI) -- Rookie Justin Miller, making just his second major league start, allowed one run and four hits in seven innings Saturday as the Toronto Blue Jays snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Angels.

Four of the losses in the skid were against the Angels, who had an eight-game winning streak halted.

Miller (2-0) made his first start April 27 at Anaheim and lasted only 3 2/3 innings, yielding four runs and four hits. But the 24-year-old righthander baffled the Angels on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings after allowing a run in the first.

Dan Plesac and Kelvim Escobar completed the five-hitter. Escobar recorded the final four outs for his fourth save in six opportunities.

Jose Cruz Jr. and Vernon Wells each had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Jays, who averted matching their longest losing streak since July 1994.

Anaheim's winning streak was its longest since a nine-game run from May 31-June 9, 1998.
