LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Brett Tomko allowed just two hits and struck out a career-high 13 over seven scoreless innings Sunday and Phil Nevin drove in three runs as the San Diego Padres blanked the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-0, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Tomko (1-1) earned his first win as a Padre, allowng a triple to Alex Cora in the third inning that right fielder Ryan Klesko lost in the sun and a double to pinch hitter Cesar Izturis in the sixth. He walked two.

Tomko's previous career high in strikeouts was 10 against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 22, 1999 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.

Nevin had an RBI double in the first, a run-scoring single in the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh. He became just the fifth player to hit at least 100 homers with the Padres.

Prior to Nevin's at bat, pinch hitter Trenidad Hubbard hit a two-run homer to give the Padres a 4-0 lead. It was Hubbard's first homer since April 30, 2000, a span of 111 at bats.

Andy Ashby (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs and six hits over six innings in his first career start against the Padres.

The setback snapped a four-game winning streak for Los Angeles.
