Arizona 9, Colorado 8

PHOENIX, April 21 (UPI) -- Danny Bautista and Steve Finley each had three RBI as the Arizona Diamondbacks built an early eight-run lead Saturday night and held on for a 9-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

The Diamondbacks led 9-1 after Craig Counsell singled in Rod Barajas and pitcher Rick Helling in the bottom of the third inning, but the Rockies climbed within 9-7 in the fifth after Todd Helton slugged a three-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

In the seventh, Colorado loaded the bases with none out but settled for just one run when Greg Norton's groundout scored Jose Ortiz to make it 9-8.

Bret Prinz pitched a scoreless eighth for Arizona and Mike Myers a perfect ninth against his former team to pick up his second save.

Helling (2-2) earned the victory despite allowing seven runs and seven hits in five innings.

Bautista staked the Diamondbacks to an early lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Finley made it 6-1 with a bases-clearing triple in the third.

John Thomson (2-2) surrendered six runs in just 2 1/3 innings for the Rockies, who lost for the seventh time in their last nine games.
