MIAMI, April 11 (UPI) -- Julian Tavarez helped his own cause by knocking in the tying run and scoring the go-ahead run Thursday night as the Florida Marlins salvaged the finale of a three-game series against the Montreal Expos, 7-5.
In the fourth inning, Tavarez's two-out, two-strike bunt single scored Derrek Lee, tying the game at 4-4.
Speedster Luis Castillo followed with a two-run triple, giving Florida the lead for good.
On the mound, Tavarez (1-0) worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and six hits.
A single by Chris Truby in the eighth pulled the Expos within 6-5, but Bruce Chen walked Lee with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning to give Florida the final margin.
Vladimir Nunez opened the ninth by walking Peter Bergeron but retired the next three batters for his first save of the season.
Expos starter Masato Yoshii (1-1) lasted just 3 2/3 innings, getting roughed up for five runs and six hits.
