Cleveland 8, Minnesota 4

CLEVELAND, April 11 (UPI) -- Jim Thome hit his second homer in as many days and Omar Vizquel hit his first of the season Thursday night as the Indians completed a four-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins, 8-4.

At 9-1, the Indians are off to their best start since 1966, when they won their first 10 games.

Bartolo Colon (3-0) became the first three-game winner in the major leagues, surrendering four runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The Indians posted their eighth straight victory and their starters are 9-0 this season. Cleveland starters won their first 10 decisions in 1988.

Kyle Lohse (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding eight runs over just 3 1/3 innings. Minnesota starters were 0-4 with a 13.50 ERA in the series.

It marked the first time the Twins were swept in a four-game series by the Indians since July 1-4, 1994.

Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire and pitcher Jack Cressend were ejected in the bottom of the fifth when Cressend hit Ricky Guttierez. Both benches were warned earlier.
