SEATTLE, April 7 (UPI) -- Frank Menechino's two-run homer in the seventh inning Saturday night boosted the Oakland Atheltics to an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
With the game tied, 3-3, and Jeremy Giambi on first base, Menechino hit a 2-0 pitch from Freddy Garcia over the left field wall for his first homer of the season, triggering a three-run rally.
Menechino was one of three A's to hit their first homer of the season. Giambi homered in the third and Miguel Tejada hit a two-run blast in the sixth.
Garcia (0-2) allowed six runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. He struck out six and walked two.
Mark Mulder (2-0) allowed three runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four as he notched his first career win at Safeco Field in three decisions.
