Los Angeles 6; Colorado 4

LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI) -- Kevin Brown, after struggling in the season opener, pitched seven scoreless innings and hit his second career homer, doubled, singled and drove in two runs to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies and a sweep of their three-game

series.

The 37-year-old Brown underwent elbow surgery last September and did not appear to be throwing with his usual velocity in spring

training. In the Dodgers' season-opening 9-2 loss to San Francisco last Tuesday, Brown lasted four-plus innings and surrendered seven runs on nine hits.

But on Sunday, Brown was on top of his game. Reaching the low 90s with his fastball and displaying impeccable control, Brown threw 57 of his 73 pitches for strikes and allowed just

four hits. He walked none and struck out five.

Brown also led the Dodgers' 13-hit attack. He hit a solo homer and doubled against struggling Colorado starter Mike Hampton and added an RBI single off reliever Mike James.

Hampton (0-2) pitched six innings and surrendered all six runs and 10 hits. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs and nine hits in Colorado's season-opening

loss at St. Louis last Monday.

The Dodgers were shut out twice in losing three games to San Francisco in their season-opening series, but totaled 24 runs in sweeping the Rockies.
