PHILADELPHIA, April 5 (UPI) -- Brandon Duckworth recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and Bobby Abreu had four hits Friday as the Philadelphia Phillies opened the home portion of their schedule with a 6-2 victory over the Floria Marlins.
One of the organization's top pitching prospects, the 26-year-old Duckworth (1-0) surrendered one run and four hits over six innings. The righthander went 3-2 in 11 starts with the Phillies last season after being recalled from the minor leagues in August.
Abreu provided Duckworth with some early support, belting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first off Julian Tavarez (0-1). Abreu also drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and stole a base.
Scott Rolen added two hits, walked three times and had an RBI for the Phillies, who have won 10 of the last 11 meetings from the Marlins at Veterans Stadium and 15 of 20 overall.
Ricky Bottalico gave up an RBI double in the ninth before Jose Mesa got the final two outs for his second save.
Making his Marlins debut, Tavarez gave up six runs and six hits in three-plus innings, walking four and striking out three.
