Minnesota 4, Toronto 3

TORONTO, April 5 (UPI) -- David Ortiz and Torii Hunter smacked back-to-back homers in the first inning Friday night and the Minnesota Twins held on for a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ortiz belted a two-run shot to right field off Brandon Lyon (0-1) and Hunter followed with a blast to left-center as the Twins jumped to a quick 3-0 lead.

Minnesota starter Rick Reed (1-0) continued his success against Toronto, yielding two runs and three hits in five innings. He struck out three, walked two and won his fourth straight against Toronto after taking all three outings with the Blue Jays last year.

Twins closer Eddie Guardado surrendered a leadoff homer to pinch hitter Dave Berg in the bottom of the ninth and walked Raul Mondesi. But he got the dangerous Carlos Delgado to bounce into a double play and retired Jose Cruz on a long flyout for his third save in as many chances this season.

Shannon Stewart hit his 11th career leadoff home run and Delgado also homered for the Blue Jays, who lost for the first time in three games this year.
