Buffalo 3, Florida 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., April 5 (UPI) -- Martin Biron came within 87 seconds of a shutout and Taylor Pyatt and defenseman Jason Woolley scored second-period goals Friday night, leading the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.

In his first season as Buffalo's No. 1 goalie, Biron is picking the best time of the season to play his best. He improved to 3

1 in his last four games, stopping 108 of 112 shots during that span.

Biron's bid for his fourth shutout was foiled with 1:27 remaining, when rookie Kristian Huselius scored a power-play goal.

Pyatt tallied 5:42 into the middle period and Woolley struck just under 12 minutes later for the Sabres, who are four points behind Montreal for the East's final playoff spot with four games remaining. Buffalo has not missed the postseason since 1996.
