Raiders sign QB Rick Mirer

OAKLAND, Calif., March 23 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders found a backup for Rich Gannon on Saturday by signing veteran quarterback Rick Mirer.

Mirer, who turned 32 this week, has spent the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He has played in 71 games and started 60 in his NFL career, throwing for 10,702 yards and 47 touchdowns.

The second overall pick in the 1993 draft, Mirer also has played for Seattle, Chicago, Green Bay and the New York Jets. The Indiana native was a three-year starter at Notre Dame.
