Larry Bowa suspended

CLEARWATER, Fla., March 21 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies revealed Thursday that manager Larry Bowa has been suspended one regular-season game and fined as the result of his actions during a March 9 Grapefruit League contest against the Cleveland Indians.

The Phillies also announced that Bowa plans to appeal. If he drops the appeal, or if it is rejected,he will sit out the second game of the season.

Bowa was cited by Major League Baseball vice president for on-field operations Bob Watson for "inappropriate conduct toward the umpire." In that March 9 game, Bowa became enraged with the home plate umpire over two close calls on checked swings. He remained on the field to argue his ejection.
