Weir leads entering final round

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla., March 10 (UPI) -- Mike Weir birdied two of his last five holes in the third round Sunday morning and had a one-shot lead over Joey Sindelar when the final round got under way at the PGA Honda Classic.

Weir was one of 50 players to return to the TPC at Heron Bay after darkness suspended play for the second straight day on Saturday following a driving rain storm Thursday afternoon.

Ranked 12th in the world, Weir had a share of the lead with unheralded Brett Wetterich when play was halted, then played eight holes Sunday morning in 2-under-par to grab the lead.

With birdies at the fifth and ninth holes, Weir reached 16-under 200, one shot better than Sindelar and two ahead of Wetterich.

The three make up the final group, teeing off Sunday at 12:50 p.m EST.

Matt Kuchar, Brett Quigley and PGA Tour rookie Stephen Gangluff were tied for fourth at 203, with Phil Mickelson, Brad Faxon and Jerry Kelly in a group of seven another stroke back.
