Detroit 6, Boston (ss) 3

LAKELAND, Fla., March 10 (UPI) -- Mark Redman tossed four solid innings and Dmitri Young had two hits Sunday as the Detroit Tigers defeated a split squad of Boston Red Sox, 6-3.

In his second spring start, Redman (2-0) allowed three hits while striking out five. He was relieved by minor league righthander Joe Valentine, who gave up three runs and three hits in two innings.

Young, who was acquired in the offseason from Cincinnati for Juan Encarnacion, led Detroit as it provided Redman with a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Jose Offerman hit a two-run homer and Johnny Damon had an RBI single for Boston.

Boston starter Frank Castillo (0-1) allowed five runs -- three earned -- and five hits in three innings. Rolando Arrojo relieved and surrendered a run in three innings.
