Chi White Sox 20, Chi Cubs 6

MESA, Ariz., March 5 (UPI) -- Mario Valenzuela's two-run home run highlighted a 10-run fifth inning Tuesday as the Chicago White Sox pounded out 26 hits in a 20-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Valenzuela entered the game as a pinch runner for Aaron Rowand in the fourth inning and went 3-for-3 with four RBI.

First baseman Paul Konerko also had four hits as 14 players recorded a hit. Catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. and centerfielder Brian Simmons also had three hits each.

White Sox starter Jon Garland allowed two runs and five hits in over two innings. Mitch Wylie (1-0) tossed two perfect innings to notch the win.

Jason Bere allowed two runs and three hits in three innings for the Cubs.

Bere was followed by Tom Gordon (0-1), who took the loss by allowing two runs and two hits in 2/3 of an inning.
