TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Despite a broken thumb, Brendan Shanahan scored twice, including the game-winner with 2:05 left in
overtime, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to their fourth straight win with a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning Tuesday night.
Defenseman Chris Chelios skated along the left side boards and rifled a shot from the faceoff circle, which went wide of the net. But the puck bounced off the end boards to Shanahan at the right side of the net, where he beat goaltender Kevin Weekes, who was scrambling to get back into position.
Shanahan also tallied with 3:41 left in the second period to knot the game, 2-2.
Shanahan suffered a broken thumb in Team Canada's 2-1 quarterfinals victory over Finland on Feb. 20 and was a game-time decision for Tuesday's contest.
Goaltender Dominik Hasek finished with 34 saves, including five in the extra period. With just over 2 1/2 minutes left in the game, Hasek skated to the high slot to make a sprawling save on a breakaway by Tampa Bay center Vaclav Prospal.
Hasek also stopped defenseman Dan Boyle on a penalty shot seven minutes into the second period by using his helmet to deflect the puck wide.
Sergei Fedorov and Luc Robitaille had the other goals for the Red Wings, who have won six of their last seven games.
Prospal, Dave Andreychuk, and rookie Jimmie Olvestad had the other goals for the Lightning, who have lost four straight.
