Massu, Calleri reach finals

BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Nicolas Massu of Chile advanced to his third career ATP final on Saturday, beating Spanish qualifier Feliciano Lopez, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, at the AT&T Cup claycourt event.

On Sundsay, Massu will battle local product Agustin Calleri, who defeated fellow Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela, 6-4, 6-4, in the other semifinal.

Despite past appearances in tour finals, the 22-year-old Massu still remains without a title. He won just four games against Tommy Haas of Germany in the title match of the 2001 AAPT Championships at Adelaide and managed to take only five games from fellow Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in the final of the 2000 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships at Orlando.

Massu has enjoyed success in this year's early claycourt events. He also reached the final four at last week's tournament in his hometown of Vina del Mar.

Calleri, 25, seems to have shaken off his early-season disappointments to advance to his first career ATP final. The Buenos Aires resident lost in the opening rounds at the Australian Open and Vina del Mar in his only previous tour outings in 2002.
