Virginia 73, North Carolina 63

CHARLOTTESVILE, Va., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Chris Williams collected 18 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday night as 13th-ranked Virginia handed North Carolina its school-record 16th loss, 73-63, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game.

Williams and Travis Watson, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds helped the Cavaliers (15-6, 6-5, ACC) complete their second sweep of the Tar Heels in the last three seasons and fourth overall.

Virginia led 39-27 at halftime and built its lead to 50-36 with 14:43 remaining in the contest. But the Tar Heels (6-16, 2-10) used a 20-5 run to take a 56-55 lead following Adam Boone's layup.

But Roger Mason Jr. hit a wide-open 3-pointer that made it 59-56 with 8:56 left and the Cavaliers led the rest of the way.

North Carolina was still in the game until Jason Capel missed a wide-open 3-pointer with under a minute left. J.C. Mathis grabbed the rebound and threw a long pass to an uncontested Watson, who easily dunked and made it 69-63 with 33 seconds left.

Kris Lang scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half for North Carolina (6-16, 2-10), which fell into sole possession of last place in the conference. The Tar Heels shot just 35 percent (17-of-49).
