NAPLES, Fla., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A new course, a fan-friendly
atmosphere and the Seniors debut of Ben Crenshaw highlights the
ACE Group Classic, which begins Friday.
The new course is TwinEagles Golf Club, which was designed by
Jack Nicklaus and his oldest, son, Jack II, and opened in 1999.
TwinEagles was the site of the 1999 Office Depot Father-Son
Challenge, won by Raymond and Robert Floyd.
Some spectators at the event will have the opportunity to walk
the fairways during competition and get golf tips from Senior
Tour pros such as Nicklaus and Lee Trevino.
Crenshaw was scheduled to make his debut last week at the Royal
Caribbean Classic, but flu symptoms forced the 19-time PGA Tour
winner to withdraw. He plans to make his Seniors debut here
this weekend.
John Jacobs captured last week's rain-shortened Royal Caribbean
Classic with an 11-under-par 133, one stroke better than Bruce
Fleisher, Tom Watson and Japan's Isao Aoki.
It was the fourth career Senior PGA Tour victory for the
56-year-old Jacobs and first since the 2000 Bruno's Memorial
Classic.
Gil Morgan is the defending champion here, winning last year by two
strokes over Dana Quigley at Pelican Marsh Golf Course.
The par-72, 7,124-yard layout is the sixth course for the
tournament in its 16-year history, all in Naples.
