College decision time for prep stars

College football coaches begin finding out Wednesday how well they have done in attracting a new class of recruits.

That's the first day high school players can sign letters-of-intent with a college, a move that legally binds a recruit athletically to a school. The commitment can be voided, however, by muutal consent. Signing period runs until April.

One of the most publicized decisions involves Lorenzo Booker, a coveted running back for St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura County, Calif., who has narrowed his choices to Florida State, Southern California, Notre Dame and Washington.

Quarterback Ben Olson of Thousand Oaks, Calif., listed as the top prospect by Prep Football Report,is headed to Brigham Young. Running back Maurice Clarett, the USA Today High School

Offensive Player of the Year, has decided on Ohio State.

Three Parade All-Americans made oral committments to Virginia Monday, including linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the 2001 USA Today Defensive Player of

the Year, defensive lineman Kai Parham and tailback Michael Johnson.
