Georgia 79, Mississippi 72

ATHENS, Ga., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Jarvis Hayes scored 17 points Saturday as Georgia returned home and snapped a two-game losing streak with a 79-72 Southeastern Conference decision over Mississippi.

Chris Daniels and Steve Thomas each added 16 points for Georgia (17-5, 6-3, SEC East), which lost back-to-back games at Vanderbilt and South Carolina.

The Bulldogs had the hot hand throughout, shooting 50 percent in the first half and 63 percent in the second to win the fourth straight meeting between the schools in Athens.

Daniels had nine rebounds to help give Georgia a 35-19 edge on the boards.

Derrick Allen scored 19 points and Justin Reed 17 for Mississippi (17-5, 6-3 West), which had a four-game win streak snapped.
