TEMPE, Ariz., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Brandon Granville scored 21 points and made four free throws in the final minute Saturday as 23rd-ranked USC rebounded from its first Pac-10 Conference loss with an 81-73 victory over Arizona State.
The Sun Devils cut a 10-point deficit to 71-68 on Tommy Smith's jumper with 40 seconds left, but USC (14-3, 6-1 Pac-10) held on by making 10 of its final 12 free throws.
Sam Clancy scored 20 points for the Trojans, who were coming off Thursday's 97-80 setback at No. 18 Arizona. David Bluthenthal and freshman Errick Craven contributed 13 and 12, respectively, for USC.
Chad Prewitt recorded 21 points and Smith 18 for Arizona State (10-7, 3-5), which made only eight of 18 free throws in the second half.
The Sun Devils suffered their second straight home loss and have dropped three of their last four overall.
