The Tigers won the Southeastern Conference title with the help of Reed, who caught 94 passes for 1,740 yards and seven touchdowns. Reed's yardage total led the nation and he broke 15 school or SEC records in 2001.

Reed was dominant in the Tigers' 47-34 victory over Illinois in the Sugar Bowl, catching 14 passes for 239 yards and two TDs.

Another LSU player, linebacker Trev Faulk, previously announced his decision to turn pro.

Nebraska offensive lineman Toniu Fonoti, a finalist for the Outland Trophy as top interior lineman and a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award as top lineman, on Wednesday was among the

players to announce intentions to leave school early.

Boston College running back William Green, the nation's second-leading rusher, also declared Wednesday. Green ran for 1,559 yards in 2001 and ranks third on Boston College's career rushing list with 2,974 yards.

Various reports indicate that Oklahoma safety Roy Williams and Tennessee wide receiver Kelley Washington will enter the draft.

Williams won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back this past season, recording 101 tackles, including 10 for losses.

Washington, 22, came to Tennessee as a walk-on after four years of minor league baseball. He caught 64 passes for 1,010 yards and five touchdowns this past season, including a school-record 256 receiving yards in a win over LSU.

The most prominent player to announce his intention to turn pro was North Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers, who did so Tuesday. Peppers won the Lombardi Award and could be the top pick in the draft.

The expansion Houston Texans hold the first pick, followed by Carolina and Detroit.

Underclassmen have until Friday to apply for the draft.
