Buffalo 3, Vancouver 2

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Vaclav Varada scored twice and Martin Biron made half of his 26 saves in the third period Tuesday night as the Buffalo Sabres edged the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2, giving them consecutive wins for the first time in more than a month.

Before ending a 10-game drought in Sunday's victory at Minnesota, Varada had just one goal in his previous 26 contests.

But he put Buffalo ahead for good in the final minute of the first period and made it 2-0 less than four minutes into the third, completing his first two-goal game since Oct. 7, 2000.

Tim Connolly got the eventual game-winner with 6:33 left in the second period and Biron took over in the third, when the Sabres went into an offensive shell and were outshot, 14-4.

Buffalo has posted back-to-back victories for the first time since a season-high three-game winning streak from November 28-December 4.

Brendan Morrison and Todd Bertuzzi tallied for the Canucks, who were denied a third straight win and lost for the second time in the last six games.
