The Falcons brought back Martin, a starter on their Super Bowl team in 1998, last June after he spent the previous two years with the Miami Dolphins. He started in nine of 11 games this

season, missing four with a broken collarbone, and had 37 receptions for a team-leading 548 yards and three touchdowns.

The Falcons (7-8) signed wide receiver Shawn Mills from the practice squad to replace Martin.

Atlanta will close the regular season Sunday at St. Louis.

Martin led the Falcons with 66 catches for 1,181 yards and six touchdowns in 1998, but was released four months after the Super Bowl XXXIII loss for salary cap reasons. He signed with the Dolphins in 1999 and led the team with 67 catches for 1,037

yards. Last season, Martin was hampered by a foot injury and started just five games.

Martin spent his first five NFL seasons with Miami before landing with the San Diego Chargers for four years.
